walker redesigned
Description
A walking frame/walker was redesigned with an aim to provide support and motivate elderly to go on daily walks to remain active. It gets its inspiration from the movement of a cross trainer cycle. The flexible rods at the front enables an elderly to use the walker with a back and forth movement of their arms. As an elderly moves their hand forward, they take a step forward with their opposite leg. The walker helps to keep an elderly’s back straight and rest their lower arms to reduce strain.
Problem Statement
Elderly people go on walks everyday as it is a form of exercise. Therefore, walking frames should provide a strong and steady support to the elderly which makes walking easy and reduces strain.
PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED
Strain on arms and wrists after long usage
Lean & apply weight to the frame while walking, thus resulting in bad posture
Difficult to use brakes and hands start to hurt after a while
Risk of falling as absence of rubber stoppers reduces friction

dimensions
The dimensions of this walker have been designed based on Indian ergonomics to ensure comfort, stability, and accessibility for users. With a front width of 470 mm and a side width of 570 mm, it provides ample room for maneuvering without compromising on support. The height of 902 mm aligns with the average reach and height requirements, allowing users to maintain an upright posture while walking. These proportions ensure the walker is well-suited for Indian users, accommodating a range of body types and enhancing stability during use.
